2018... My BLANK CANVAS

The reason why I am calling this blog post “My BLANK CANVAS” is because that is what I want 2018 to be. In 2017, I set some resolutions, but a few months in, I knew that I wouldn't achieve them as I’m never really good with them. As this is first post of 2018, It’s my reflection on last year as a whole and where I'd like to see everything to go - 2018 is my canvas. I started 2018, with a blank canvas - and throughout the year, I want to create a 'masterpiece of memories' that I'm happy with - whether, that achieving something that I'd always wanted to do, or visiting somewhere I'd always wanted to go.

In 2018, I’m really going to focus on myself, my relationship and my family. Why didn't I include friendship in that list you might ask? Because I feel like I don't know what it is anymore.

Me, Myself & I

I wanted to work on myself so much this year. I did in 2017, but not as much. I am going to work really hard to achieve the best I can in college as I have 6 months left. I want to leave feeling great, as this will be my 4th and final year. I want to make myself, my boyfriend, family and of course my teacher/lecturer proud of my creative skills.

As I'm studying media make-up and special effects, I've really enjoyed it and want my career in make-up to take me far. Whether that's doing make-up or SFX - It's always been a passion of mine and to get where I want to in life doing a hobby that I love.

With that said, carry on practising my make-up skills and upload better quality photos on my socials like Instagram, Facebook & Twitter, hopefully progressing one day into a YouTube career.

Start becoming less lazy. I'm not lazy with life. Yes, there can be days where I genuinely have nothing to do as I don't need to do anything. But I mean, the days where stuff could be done: but I decide not to... For instance, I constantly nap - I believe that I got this from my mum. We would be watching TV then 5-10 minutes later, she would be snoring her head off, and this was me throughout 2017. I'd get home from college and fall asleep for an hour or two and not be able to sleep at night. Even on the days I'm not in college, I would nap. It needs to stop as I'm wasting days by sleeping. I need to keep myself more busy in the day whether I go out or keep busy in the house. To stay awake all day needs to happen. Maybe it’s because my body is lacking in iron...

Skincare - For the past two years, I've finally found a product that helps my spots massively. Now it's my aim to find a product that will really help to get rid of scarring. It really effects my confidence when not wearing makeup. I'm fine not wearing it when going out, but I just feel paranoid that people stare and to be relieved of that feeling would be amazing.. but I know drinking A LOT more water helps too.

Blog

Yes, I've had so many ups and downs with it. Last year, I came back then the last 2 months of 2017, I stopped due to private family matters and I just couldn't write anything as I knew I wouldn't be happy with any of it. Liam got me a notebook within my Christmas presents, as a way to help me with brainstorming my ideas for my blog in 2018. Some people they may think that's boring, but I genuinely love having notebooks - and I couldn't be anymore happier with it.

I want to make this year the best year for my blog because Liam has helped me out massively behind the scenes. I'd never want to stop blogging and throw it all away. I want to the create content that I’ve always wanted to. It's not that I haven’t already done this, it’s just that I’ve had ideas that I’ve not been able to physically produce online. Especially with fashion posts. I want to do more of them as I’ve only ever done one, but I'm working towards facilitating this in 2018.. . But please stay tuned for content that I’ve always wanted to post.

Positivity

Life isn't easy. Its not always sunshine and rainbows. Not everyone is happy 24/7. Everyone has their down days. And I think I had too many of them last year. Sometimes getting upset for no reason (perks of being a girl. I'm too emotional), getting easily stressed at things all the time which needs to decrease and to listen more. It's not that I never listen to people - I just need to take in what people say and think. Because when I’m upset, I can get side tracked and not properly listen. Especially when given advice.

But I want to be more happy and carry on being surrounded by the people that I know that make me happy. I want to create even more memories like I did last year and just seeing where this year takes me is exciting and I can't wait to see where it goes.

I'd like to wish you all a very Happy New Year, and I hope 2018 and the years to come bring you great health, happiness and love.

XO

October Favourites

It's my first ever monthly favourite guys! I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited to have done this, as I love reading monthly favourite posts and videos. I'm just nosey, isn't everyone? I've not got a massive amount of products that I've loved because I've not bought loads of things, or there was certain things that I obviously didn't want to include because they weren't a favourite of mine. But what I've included I will always be using.

The Creme Shop OMG brushes

Am I late on trying out these oval type brushes? Because I feel like I am. But I think these are my favourite brushes to ever use for my make-up. They feel really smooth on my face, not that any other make-up brush I've used isn't. But with these, there is just something about them! I find them aesthetically pleasing to look out, black and copper... Gorgeous, and really nice to hold actually. They're the prettiest make-up brushes ever!

I have the Trio set and the Foundation brush, they're all great in their own way, multi-use and overall brilliant brushes. I might have to get some more. When I first seen these type of brushes, it was unusual to look at because no one has ever seen oval shaped brushes, but watching people use them was fascinating and seeing how well they performed on the face. Then I used them on myself and I cant get enough of them and I also like that they're multi-use as well, because If a brush was just for one specific use, Id feel restricted. But then again, there is no rules within make-up.

In the trio set you get;

Contour/ Blending - Designed specifically for contouring and blending, this brush possesses dimensions that sweep along the natural contours of the face and buff away harsh edges.

I love the contour brush, I use it for blending out my contour and it leaves a smooth application and makes my contour melt into my foundation and skin as if my contour is my ''natural'' shadow on my cheeks which I love. I especially love blending it on my forehead as well and jawline. I don't use it for nose contour just because it's top big for that.

Eyebrow/ Eyeliner - Designed specifically for filling in eyebrows and applying eyeliner, this brush possesses dimensions that glide on colour with absolute precision in unbroken streaks.

For this brush I actually use it for lining under my brow, to define and also applying and blending out concealer on my eyelids too. As my current brush that I use isn't very good to pack on the concealer and blend out. So this brush is perfect. I tried to use it to apply brow product, but It didn't work very well as my brows aren't full and I struggled to get the desired shape I always make my brows.

Eye shadow/ Concealer - Designed specifically for applying eye shadows and concealer, this brush possesses dimensions that cover broad and narrow areas with a smooth blanket of colour.

Perfect brush to conceal, especially when dotting concealer or under the eyes as well as it's soft like all the brushes, and under the eyes on the skin is thin, this brush is light and soft to the touch. When concealing, I will put some on the back of the hand and dab my brush into it then tap the concealer on my face and blending it out.

And the foundation brush;

Designed specifically for applying foundations and powders, this brush possesses dimensions that glide smoothly across broad feature to provide systematic coverage.

As the foundation is dense, it helps me apply the foundation better on my skin, I always like a quite dense brush instead of a fluffy brush as I feel like it gives me fuller coverage and stops my foundation from being streaky or being patchy. And as the brushes bristles are so soft, they feel super soft and relaxing on my face. I don't use it for powders or foundation powders, as like I said, its dense and I prefer a fluffy brush to apply powders.

Maybelline Fit Me Mate and Poreless Foundation

Again, another product I am so late on trying. THIS FOUNDATION! Well, I have actually tried the normal foundation and it's just as great as matte and poreless but because I have combination skin, having the foundation on throughout the day.. Yeah, you see where I'm going with this. My T-Zone gets oily. I don't like it at all. But with matte and poreless and the littlest of powder on top, I don't get oily throughout the day and even at the end of the day, my base still looks how it did when I first applied it.

When trying to guess my shade, I actually went a shade darker than I got with the normal foundation, just because my original shade was too light, and I haven't been on holiday since August and I didn't exactly get a tan so god knows how I've gone up 2 shades I don't know haha but 250 is a perfect match for me.

It's very light on the skin, which surprised me because usually with matte foundations, they feel a little heavy on my skin and I can feel it all day, and it feels cakey. But with this one it's light, feels light and feels like skin and I always forget I'm wearing it till I look in the mirror and notice a flawless base! I don't even need to spot conceal either. But of course I will use a lighter shade of concealer under my eyes. AND THE COVERAGE! OMG! INSANE! When I wear foundation, I always do 2 layers so get the coverage I want, but with matte and poreless, 1 layer is enough. That's how incredible it is!

Eyeko London Eye Do Mascara & YSL Baby Doll Mascara

Eyeko - As I have small eyelashes, eyeko's mascara give me longer and thicker looking lashes instantly. And it's also water resistant. As my left eye in the outer corner of my eye, it waters a lot when I have make-up on, and waters a lot when it's cold outside and I'm out, so my mascara does not run what so ever which is amazing for me. The wand is big so it gets every single lash, applies easily and and even though my hair is VERY dark brown, looks black, but in the light it isn't. My lashes are very dark and the mascara makes them even darker! I use this mascara on it's own when I'm not wearing flash lashes and even when I do. But it makes my lashes look so full, sometimes I don't even need falsies on!

YSL - THIS IS MY FIRST EVER HIGH END PRODUCT! I am so happy right now, even though it's a mascara, but still. It's Y freaking SL! And their products are amazing apparently. I didn't actually buy this, I got given it. Don't worry it's not been used, it was still in the packaging. I'd never wear make-up that someone already used.. EW! But more about the mascara, it really opens up my eyes, as I feel bald without mascara on, I look tired and as soon as I apply Baby Doll, boom, lengthened lashes and I look wide awake. What could you want more? My lashes are small and I hate it, so this mascara really gives them some length.

Yves Saint Laurent celebrates Haute Couture with a high tech attitude. Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Baby Doll.
Wide open, her eyes attract all the attention. A falsely innocent sensuality. Stunning. Baby Doll.
With one stroke our mascara brush and formula magnifies your eyes through the innovative structure of dual-length bristles and intense colour pigment for defined volume with up to for 24 hour wear. The multifaceted brush alternates thick, widely spaced bristles to coat and magnify your lashes, while finer, more closely spaced bristles define eyelashes.

MAC Cosmetics Matte Bronze Bronzing Powder

YAS TO BRONZER! I think bronzing/contouring has to be my favourite part of doing my make-up, of course highlighting is the top thing I love to do, but when bronzing/contouring, it just gives your face shape again. No one wants a flat face. I use this to bronze and contour all over, it gives me a natural looking bronze which I love because I like when it melts into my skin and gives me that look as if I've been tanning and the sun has hit me. Looking like a bronzed goddess is everything, I do this in the Summer, Winter, Spring, Autumn... All the time. I wanna be looking bronzed af okay!

I want to try and describe how it feels when swatching it, but I can't haha. It definitely doesn't feel powdery and chalky like some contour/bronze powders can be, but it feels.. Not creamy but very smooth. Almost velvety really, it's very lightweight and blends so easily. This is my first bronzing powder from MAC and I'm thinking of buying Give Me Sun, as its much warmer than Matte Bronze. It's not really cool toned, its neutral in way, so when I contour with it, it's not ashy looking, it's not muddy what so ever.

A subtly tinted powder that gives skin sheer, natural colour effects and highlights. Perfect for enhancing skin tone; providing a natural, sun-kissed look; or accentuating a tan. Formulated to provide a smooth, even application on all skin types.

RapidBrow Eyebrow Enhancing Serum

I've never owned serums to help improve my brows, and I was so excited when I got this to and gave it a try. I haven't used it for the full 60 days that it says, but I have for 30 and my brows feel softer and look fuller, even though they aren't, but the serum has helped it look that way and It's weird but I love it. I apply it every morning and every night, even before I wear makeup. It makes my brows feel and look healthier. Brows are everything, so why not have a product to help improve them. Like a primer in a way.

RapidBrow® Eyebrow Enhancing Serum is formulated with an innovative Hexatein®2 Complex. Exclusive to RapidBrow®, Hexatein®2 Complex is comprised of six highly effective ingredients that help condition and improve the appearance of eyebrows and put the wow back into your brow! More voluminous-looking, more beautiful natural brows are just a few brush strokes away!

So, that's it for my first ever monthly favourites. I hope you enjoyed it! I can't wait to post them every month, (That's if I have new favourites haha) but I really do recommend all of these, and I would love to know what are your favourites of October, comment below with either your blog post to it or just list them to me.

MorpheXJaclynHill

EEEK! Firstly I want to say this is my 4th Morphe Brushes palette I've done on my blog. I clearly can't get enough of them. They're just the best eyeshadow palettes I've ever used and the only ones I actually use... Of course I have other shadow palettes, but because all 3 of mine are stacked up on my vanity table, I reach for them more. But let's appreciate how stunning Jaclyn Hill's collaboration with Morphe is!

Favourite Face Products for Women Of Colour

Hey everyone,

I have the pleasure of working with Beautycocoonbox to share with you some helpful advice in the make-up world for women of colour and under-represented skin tones!

I know how hard it is to walk into your favourite drugstore or make-up counter and find things that you need, then your relief turns to sadness, due to brands having a small amount of shades. Or not even having your shade for that matter! Which has happened to me before.

So I have brought to you, my favourite products or products that I'd love to purchase as I can rely on these brands to produce enough shades in their range, to create my favourite makeup looks.

I'M BACK!

YES I AM BACK! Can you believe it?! I can't either if I'm completely honest.

I've had such a long break away from my blog, It's unreal. From hating everything, I've ever posted to hating how my blog looks. I've also doing my last two years in college doing Hair & Media Makeup. I'm now doing Theatrical Special Effects as the final section to the course. It's been busy busy busy, so much that I haven't been able to focus on my blog as well as college as my main priority was that, and still is. But, I hardly had any attention on my blog. But I've wrote an insight into why below...

British Style Collective

If you've been to Liverpool recently, you may have noticed these umbrella's in the city centre, im not sure on the meaning behind them to why they're there, and didnt even notice that they had drawings on them and written stuff until i seen the photographs, but i love it, find it a fun addition to the city centre. And of course, everyone took photos on them and selfies under them.
